Knowledge acquisition and application

An ability to acquire and apply knowledge of mathematical foundations, navigational planning and ship design, engineering tools, maritime administration, search-and-rescue operation, salvage operation, risk and accident analysis, environmental management, marine motors and marine propulsion.

Navigational Planning and Management

An ability to make navigational planning and management taking into account factors such as safety, environmental protection. meteorological data and ocean conditions;

Analyzing problems and finding solutions

An ability to analyze real world problems in voyage planning, bridge watch, maneuvering, falling of auxiliary machinery operation, ship's dynamic responses, and pollution prevention.

Using advanced Security Management Tools and Techniques

An ability to design and implement security management system Andon-board safety in emergency situations including the activation of suitable response mechanism using advanced modern tools and techniques;

B.Sc. in Shipping & Maritime Science

Undergraduate Program
For admission into undergraduate programs in the Department of Shipping and Maritime Science (SMS), candidate must meet following conditions in compliance with UGC. Have science background with Physics, Chemistry, Math (PCM) and minimum GPA 2.5 in both SSC and HSC level; or Must have minimum 5 subjects including PCM in O-level and 2 subjects in A-level, among them minimum grade B in at least 4 subjects and minimum grade C in at least other 3 subjects in science group. Must appear in admission test and qualify for admission.

Requirements for Graduation
To obtain the degree in Bachelor of Shipping and Maritime Science (abbreviated as B. Sc. in SMS) a student will have to complete at least 150.00 Credit Hours including assigned projects and training and must pass all the required courses, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.20. Student must also meet all the financial obligations to the university to become qualified for the degree. If any student fails in any course, he/she will get the opportunity to improve the grade by retaking the same in the subsequent trimesters like other regular students. The requirement for obtaining 150.00 credit hours in the university is sufficient enough compared with the minimum requirement of international standard and UGC guidelines.

Credit Transfer:
Transfer Students:
Credit transfer shall be allowed only from the approved universities. A student transferring credit from another approved university or based on equivalence given by UGC to CUB may be exempted or waived maximum 50% credit hours if he/she meets all of the following conditions: CGPA 3.00 or above in the completed courses;
Exemption in any course requires that the student scored GPA 3.00 or above in that course;
The course he/she studied had 80% similarity in course detail with respect to the syllabus of Shipping and Maritime Science Department of CUB; and
The evidences must be supported by the official documents from the previous university.

Upon completion of the required courses by the transferee student for the degree, GPA shall be computed only from the courses completed at CUB. The transcript shall also include only the courses that the student completed at CUB. It is student’s responsibility to bring the documents regarding his completed courses from the previous university for his/her safeguard and shall be submitted separately when needed.
